Casual engagement
A casual engagement is the standard arrangement for most bookings.
You receive a booking request from a school
You choose to accept or decline
You work for one or more days as arranged
Bookings remain casual if:
They do not exceed five consecutive days
They are treated as separate bookings, even if they occur across multiple days
Temporary engagement
A temporary engagement applies when:
You are booked for more than five consecutive days at the same school
When this happens:
ClassCover automatically detects the threshold
The engagement is classified as temporary in line with Queensland Department of Education rules
What this means for you
If your booking becomes temporary:
The engagement type is updated in ClassCover
Your booking will still appear in your Calendar as normal
The classification reflects Queensland Department of Education employment conditions for that placement
Important clarification
The five-day threshold applies only to consecutive days
Non-consecutive bookings (e.g. Monday and Wednesday) remain casual, regardless of the total number of days
